MOSSTOWIE Primary School pupils paid special tribute to the sacrifice of service personnel ahead of Remembrance Day yesterday.
Pupil Liam Morran laid a wreath on behalf of the school before Deputy Lieutenant of Moray Margaret Stenton and Councillor James Allan followed suit.
Pupils from the school also added handmade poppies to a 'remembrance board' at Miltonduff Hall and also contributed a special plaque which was brought together following the school's research.
Classes at Mosstowie began researching the names on the memorial six years ago but the school's headteacher Garry Forgie says looking back over the research this year was an important step in making pupils aware of the importance of Remembrance Day.
Mr Forgie said: "Five or six years ago classes at Mosstowie did some research to look at the names on the memorial and they found a wealth of information that enabled them to create the display.
"This year's pupils are checking the research and already today on day one they've found 11 out of the 17 names on the memorial.
"The next step is for them to look at birth certificates, to start looking at maps that are 100 years old and to check addresses.
"We then will go into the library and find photographs and who knows we might find something new.
"They might find something that we got wrong the first time round. It's a good start and they're quite excited about it which is good because kids should know about this.
"It's a very important project."
Mosstowie pupil Louisa Walters said the school's project is important to ensure that those who have lost their lives in war are remembered.
She said: "It's important to do this because the families of these soldiers wouldn't have known what had happened.
"It's hard to think that someone died at the age of 19 because that's not much older than us."
