A FRESH chapter was turned on World Book Day across Moray today as pupils celebrated the event for the first time since the pandemic started.
Elgin Academy's theme this year was Costumes and Cakes.
Staff were encouraged to dress up and invited to change the names of their departments to the name of a book, to represent the department.
The biology department became Narnia and with teachers dressing up as the Ice Queen, Mr Tumnus, Aslan and Susan, while modern languages transformed into Les Misérables with teachers as Inspector Javert, Fantine, Cosette and Madame Thénardier.
The pupils were also encouraged to participate in celebrations, with students designing their own book-themed biscuits in the home economics department at lunchtime, decorating their treats with a title, a quote or cover from their favourite books.
Pupils then got to enjoy their biscuits at lunch, while reading on a beanbag.
Elgin Academy's Librarian, Shelagh Toonen said: "It's been lovely seeing students and staff so engaged with world book day this year. Staff are always keen to get involved and have fun, which is amazing.
World book day is a great way to promote literacy and reading."
Aberlour Primary School also took part in the World Book Day celebrations, with many of the pupils attending school dressed as their favourite book characters.
