NORTHERN Scot reader and regular contributor Hazel Thomson captured these stunning images of a rare sun halo in Moray over the weekend.

The phenomenon is produced by light from the sun interacting with ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere.

They can come in many forms, ranging from coloured or white rings with many appearing near the sun and the moon.

In folklore, the rings were interpreted as an omen of bad weather to come.
