PICTURES: Successful return for Dreamtime Community Arts' pantomime at Elgin Town Hall
DREAMTIME Community Arts celebrated a successful return to the Elgin Town Hall stage for its yearly pantomime.
Around 25 members of the group, which works with people with learning difficulties, performed Aladdin to a sold-out crowd at the town hall on January 26.
Director Kevin Oakes said: "It went really well with a full-house in attendance. We managed to sell out the hall again.
"It was a really well-supported performance. The audience were so appreciative and joined in with the singing."
The flying carpet was a highlight of the event – with a special mechanical system brought in from England to give the impression that Aladdin (Kai Wood) and Princess (Sophie McKay) were flying.
"These special effects are used in the West End," Kevin added. "It takes four people to operate the system and we had to pick it up from Scarborough in England.
"It goes about six or seven foot high with them on it. Everyone was amazed – you could hear the gasps from the crowd."
The pantomime is one of the yearly highlights for Dreamtime Community Arts, which runs activities related to the arts including theatre, music, sign language, cooking and crafts.
Next year's performance is yet to be confirmed, as it's not certain if Elgin Town Hall will be available due to planned upgrades. The show will definitely go on, though, Kevin confirmed.
"We don't know what's happening yet, but we will definitely be performing a pantomime somewhere," he said.
