A PITGAVENY dad is cycling his way back to fitness – and for a good cause – after recovering from a bout of Covid-19.

Crinan Dunbar (55) is well on his way to reaching his cycle target of 250km throughout May, notching up 205km so far, to boost Children’s Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS).

The farmer and rural businessman was bed-bound for a week with Covid-19 symptoms over the festive period, and says he feels his lung function is not quite back to normal.

Crinan, who has 13-year-old twins Florence and Ianthe, said: "I got Covid-19 over Christmas and New Year so I am very unfit, as my daughters will attest. So I thought 'I'll have a go and see if I can do this thing'.

"It is a great cause. There is a whole group of people in Scotland who are doing the challenge.

"I have been going out most evenings, mainly between Pitgaveny, Elgin and Lossiemouth in a loop, and I am now over the 200km mark.

"I used to cycle regularly, but I'm very much out of condition. When I lived in London, before I had a car, I used to cycle everywhere.

"But I've certainly got fitter."

He added: "I am trying to raise as much as I can. The target is £750 and I've reached about £640 so far."

CHAS cares for children throughout Scotland with life-shortening conditions and their families, ensuring that no matter how short their time together may be, it is filled with happiness.

Crinan has two fundraising pages – on Facebook and JustGiving, where he posts updates after each ride. These will remain open until June 5.
