A LONDON-based business group hopes to open a new whisky distillery and visitor centre between Forres and Grantown.

Bimber Distillery Ltd has applied for planning permission to renovate the Wester Green Steading at Dunphail.

The company's co-founder Dariusz Plazewski said: "I have been to Scotland on whisky tours and it is always a great experience.

"I visited Dunphail last year and I fell in love with the area. The landscapes are breathtaking and I love the agricultural setting.

"There is a strong community spirit where people cultivate their sense of identity and trades in conjunction with environmental protection."

In 2015, Dariusz turned his passion for hand-crafted spirits into a distillery in north-west London.

Bimber Distillery Ltd now hopes to lay down 1577 casks a year at Dunphail – 200,000 litres of alcohol with up to 63.5 per cent strength.

The spirit would then be matured for a minimum of three years in casks.

It is also planned that the Dunphail visitor centre will be open for tours and tastings for up to 60 people-a-day.
