The first details of the new footbridge in Lossiemouth have been made public.

The image below is from a planning application submitted to Moray Council.

A slightly better version can be seen here along with the full application.

.

The footbridge is being built across the River Lossie between the Esplanade and the town's East Beach.

It will be about 250ft in length and about 10ft wide.

The bridge will also be slightly arched with a gradient of 1:20.

Work will also take place to widen the pavements approaching it.

The application is set to go before Moray Council's planning committee on Tuesday.

A report compiled by planning officers ahead of the meeting says: "The beaches of Lossiemouth are main visitor attractions for locals and tourists.

"Access to the East Beach is therefore a key element to the success of Lossiemouth as a tourist destination, as well as being a valued local amenity."

Later the report adds: "It is anticipated that the bridge will bring an increase in visitors to Lossiemouth and the wider area."

The East Beach has been inaccessible since July 2019, when the town's wooden footbridge was closed for safety reasons.

The wooden structure is due to demolished at the same time as the new bridge is built.

.

The planning application states that bollards will be placed at the entrance of the new bridge to prevent vehicles from going across.

Meanwhile, its steelwork will have a fluoropolymer coating and its decking boards will be made of wood-effect composite materials.
