THE FAMILY of a missing Moray woman are desperately hoping she will finally contact them on her 60th birthday, almost nine years after disappearing without a trace.

Buckie woman Patricia Duncan was 51 when she mysteriously vanished from her family home on November 16 2002, with no more than her coat and a packet of cigarettes.

Her tight-knit family have been searching for her ever since, but despite numerous claimed sightings over the years from as far away as Malta, the hunt has been fruitless.

Saturday marks the date of Mrs Duncan’s 60th birthday, and the family are yet again appealing for her to make contact.

"We would like her to come home, but if she doesn’t want to, we just want to wish her happiness on her birthday and tell her that we miss her very much," said daughter Johan (31).

"We want her to get in touch, and if she would come home then it would be even better."

Mrs Duncan’s case was featured in an STV programme entitled ‘Missing Mums’ at the start of the year, which Johan said produced some positive results.

However, despite claimed sightings of her mum in locations including Inverness and London, Mrs Duncan could not be located.

"Every time we get a phone call from the police we get our hopes up, but because it has been so long, we don’t pin our hopes on the feeling that it definitely would be her," she said.

"We just want to do as much as possible to keep the story in the limelight."

Mrs Duncan disappeared from the family home at 81 Main Street, Buckie, in the early hours of November 16, 2002.

She walked into a wild storm, leaving behind many personal items including spare clothes, her purse and handbag.

More than 30 police officers conducted a full search of the area, while an underwater search team, tracker dogs and the coastguard were also called in to aid in the hunt for Mrs Duncan.

However, they could find no trace of her.
