The 34-year-old man, who was riding a black Yamaha Tracer 9 motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene near Alves Wood after being involved with a collision with a white Hyundai i10 car.

The female driver of the car suffered minor injuries and was taken to Dr Gray's Hospital in Elgin for treatment following the incident which happened at around 8.40am on Sunday.

The road was closed until around 7.40pm to allow for an investigation at the scene.

Sergeant Alexander Bowser-Riley said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the motorcyclist at this very sad time.

“I would urge anyone who saw either vehicle shortly prior to the collision, particularly on the A96 between Elgin and Forres, who witnessed the collision or who may have dashcam footage to contact us.

“Anyone who can help is asked to call 101, quoting incident 1112 of July 30.”
