A fire engine from Fochabers was called to the scene just outside Fochabers on Monday morning.

PC Jellis, from Police Scotland, said: "A large quantity of conifer trimmings was discarded on an access road off the A96 between Keith and Fochabers and set alight at 9.30am today [Monday, June 22].

"Have you had any work done, waste removed or any information that may assist our inquiries?

"Call Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 773 of June 23."

Members of the public who believe they can help the police in their investigation can also pop into the police stations at Buckie or Keith.

Echoing a police call for information regarding the incident, a spokesman from Fochabers fire station added: "This behaviour is not acceptable and could have quite easily become a serious fire.

"Please think about your actions in future and be more respectful."
