Police investigating deliberate fire at caravan in Elgin

POLICE are treating a fire in Elgin in which two caravans were badly damaged as wilful.

The fire happened on Thursday, January 4, after 8pm at Thornhill Playing Fields in the New Elgin area.

One caravan was left completely burned out and another significantly damaged. Police confirmed a suspect is being sought.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "At around 8.40pm on Thursday, January 4, 2024 officers were made aware of a caravan on fire near Thornhill Drive, Elgin.

"The fire is being treated as wilful and enquiries are ongoing."

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson added: "We were alerted at 8.18pm on Thursday, January 4, to reports of a caravan on fire in Elgin.

"Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances to the town's Thornhill Playing Fields, where firefighters extinguished the fire and worked to make the area safe before leaving the scene.

"There were no casualties."
