AFTER Storm Babet forced its cancellation last Saturday a sponsored walk in Cooper Park has been rescheduled to this Sunday.

Rotary Elgin's Walk a Mile event aims to raise crucial funds to the organisation's ongoing and highly successful efforts to combat polio.

Once a widespread scourge on previous generations the disease has nearly been eradicated globally now – but not quite.

Rotary President Michelle Anderson said: "Rotary International commenced their End Polio Now campaign some 35 years ago and during that time, through extensive vaccine programmes throughout the world, huge progress has been achieved.

"However, with cases still being reported in Pakistan and Afghanistan we cannot be complacent and must continue efforts towards a world totally free of the disease."

The rescheduled Walk a Mile event will begin at Grant Lodge at 11am on Sunday, October 29.

It's open to participants of all ages. The walk costs just £1 for entry and attendees can also purchase teas, coffees and more after the event.
