A MORAY hotel has been praised after helping an elderly couple during Storm Malik and Storm Corrie.
The Aberlour Hotel put up Bill (83) and Nancy Robertson (87), whose power went out on Saturday, January 29, free of charge.
The couple booked themselves into the hotel on Sunday morning, after one night of attempting to brave the cold, and had tea and breakfast.
On attempting to pay on the Monday, Aberlour Hotel's managing director Kellie Spooner refused to take any money.
Neil Fyvie, the couple's son, who lives in Glasgow, said: "It was a fantastic gesture and great community spirit.
"They booked themselves in as normal residents and had meals and a nice room.
"When the hotel found out why they were there they refused to take payment.
"My mum and dad were blown away and astounded. It was a lovely thing for them to do.
"It's reassuring to know the community and the hotel were there for them. It was peace of mind for me."
Managing director Ms Spooner said that she couldn't have taken money from the couple.
"I felt awful for them because they had no electricity," she said. "They were willing to pay and tried to convince me to take money but I said they were all right.
"We try do our bit, I'm very community-minded and I couldn't take money off people in a situation like that."
As well as helping Mr and Mrs Robertson, Kellie took soup to Speyside Care Home, who also had no electricity.
In addition to the help from the hotel, Neil made mention of the local community in Aberlour – who helped his mum and dad with hot water while their power was out.
