ASSURANCES have been given to people across Moray regarding the services available at Dr Gray’s Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic.

As part of the wider NHS Grampian draft mobilisation plan, the hospital will continue to provide emergency care to Moray patients, along with some aspects of cancer care.

General manager Alasdair Pattinson said: "We will assess patients presenting with serious symptoms and determine whether or not they can be treated locally, e.g. at home, or require transfer to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.

"We will also support recovering COVID-19 patients through rehabilitation.

"Being able to provide this service closer to their homes in Elgin means valuable space will be available at ARI to treat those most unwell.

"We know this is a concerning time for people with other medical conditions and want to reassure them that we will continue to provide some aspects of cancer care, along with unscheduled care.

"As people will be aware, all elective and non-urgent care is on hold, along with a number of national screening programmes.

"We are working hard, along with our colleagues in GP practices, to ensure people with long-term conditions still get appropriate support.

"I want to thank the whole team at Dr Gray’s for their enormous hard work at this time.

"Our staff have pulled together to ensure we are as prepared as we can be for the challenges COVID-19 will bring.

"This is a fast-moving situation and we continue to share all the latest information with them as quickly as we can.

"I also want to thank the people of Moray for their support. Their willingness to abide by the guidance on staying at home and social distancing is appreciated.

"We are also very grateful for the many kind messages shared in support of our staff."
