Princess Anne was in Forres today to present an award to ReBOOT which recycles, refurbishes and repairs IT equipment.

The King’s Award for Voluntary Services is widely known as the MBE for charities.

The Princess showed a genuine interest in ReBOOT’s work as she was given a guided tour of its shop and warehouses by its manager Lee McGrath.

Talking to Chris Smith, an Elgin resident who’s the charity’s technical officer, she jokingly voiced a common frustration amongst computer users everywhere.

She stated that her device seems to enjoy updating itself without warning.

ReBOOT collects computers, Sky boxes, electrical leads, keyboards and monitors from both businesses and homes right across the north of Scotland.

It also accepts donations at its base on Forres’ Greshop industrial estate, where it’s been sited since its foundation in 1997.

Items are refurbished, then either put up for sale in the shop or handed over for free to worthy causes.

Those beyond being salvaged are broken up and have their parts sold on.

The Princess Royal presented the King’s Award for Voluntary Services to Hilary Lamont, another Elgin resident who’s been volunteering at ReBOOT for the past 17 years.
