A CELEBRATION evening to mark the start of construction on one of Moray's newest whisky production sites was held at Glenfiddich Distillery in Dufftown recently.
Guests from across Scotland's whisky industry, including the board and the staff of The Cabrach Trust who have been pivotal in commencing development of The Cabrach Distillery, attended the celebration.
It was announced that a busy winter schedule of construction on the site will commence which will ensure significant progress is made by the new year.
Final masonry works will be completed on 19th-Century steadings, which will then be made wind and watertight before hardwood windows and doors are installed and the roof topped with reclaimed Welsh slate.
The coming weeks will also see the construction of the new Peat Shed — the development’s energy and malt-handling centre.
Grant Gordon, The Cabrach Trust chairman, said: "To bring together many of the wonderful whisky community is cause for celebration in itself.
"That we are able to mark the incredible progress made in recent months towards bringing malt whisky production back to The Cabrach is doubly satisfying.
"We thank everyone who helped us enjoy the occasion and we look forward to welcoming them to the home of a completed and fully-functioning Cabrach Distillery in years to come."
It is hoped that in Winter 2023, single malt production will resume at the site for the first time in over 170 years.
The Cabrach Trust announced last month that a £3.5million deal for construction of The Cabrach Distillery had been struck with Forsyths of Rothes, and construction is well underway.
Once complete, the small scale distillery will produce 100,000 litres of spirit each year using locally sourced barley.
Future revenues will also support the Trust's community regeneration plans which is hoped to bring permanent skilled employment to the area while attracting thousands of visitors every year.
Earlier this year, The Cabrach Trust opened its Discovery Trail and also relaunched The Cabrach Games, a former staple of the Highland Games calendar, after an 87-year hiatus.
