RAF Kinloss personnel say farewell to Moray
RAF Kinloss personnel take part in the freedom march
OVER 100 personnel from RAF Kinloss have marched through Forres in an emotional farewell to the town and Moray.
The three flying squadrons at the base exercised their right to a freedom march through the town ahead of the closure of the air base in July.
The UK Government's strategic defence and security review last October cancelled the new Nimrod MRA4 contract and signalled the end of the base as an air station.
The flying squadrons will be formally disbanded on Thursday when the Duke of Edinburgh, RAF Kinloss' Honorary Air Commodore visits the base.
Station Commander, Group Captain James Johnston, said: "This is not meant to be a sad occasion rather a celebration with a tinge of sadness.
"My personnel, RAF Kinloss, Forres and the Moray community have been on quite a journey over the last seven months and it is testament to the strength of our integration, shared understanding and sense of duty that has allowed us all to act over the period with such dignity and pride."
