THE Red Arrows enjoyed perfect sunshine as they flew over Moray on Wednesday as part of RAF Lossiemouth's Friends and Families Day.
The event was attended by around 3000 guests who, as well as seeing the Red Arrows, were treated to a very special display from a Spitfire and Hurricane from the Battle of Britain Memorial flight.
On top of that, there was a performance from a jet from the Typhoon display team, a flypast of RAF Lossiemouth’s own Typhoon and Poseidon and a goodbye fly past from 2 F-15 jets on detachment from RAF Lakenheath.
There were also a number of attractions on the ground including a virtual reality display.
Lossiemouth Station Commander Group Captain Jim Lee said: "It has been three years since we have been able to hold this event in full.
"We hold it to say thank you to all of those who support us – including families, near and far, whose support allows our people to deliver our operations.
"We'd also like to thank our neighbours in the local community. We know we can be a bit noisy here at Lossiemouth and we really appreciate your tolerance as we continue to conduct our vital flying training and operations that help keep the United Kingdom safe."
Moray Council convener Marc Macrae added: “I was delighted to be invited along to the base and following the lifting of restrictions around Covid it was nice to see the Friends and Family Day restored.
“We must never forget the work done daily at RAF Lossiemouth by so many people, working across many disciplines and trades to maintain the safety of the United Kingdom.
“The displays were, as always, first class with the Red Arrows thrilling the crowd with their formation flying skills.
“A great day indeed and a very grateful thanks to all at RAF Lossiemouth for sharing their day with so many."
