Moray Sports Centre who were made redundant in the early days of the coronavirus crisis have been given a reprieve, it has been confirmed.

A total of 31 staff at the Elgin centre who originally lost their jobs on March 18, have instead been furloughed on 80 per cent wages after the UK Government made money available.

The £12million centre, which opened in July and is owned by Springfield Properties chairman Sandy Adam, is temporarily closed until the end of the crisis.

However, several staff are currently loading up their own exercise videos onto the centre's Facebook page.

Kathryn Evans, the centre's manager, said: "I tell anyone to do this – they've been doing this off their own backs.

"But I'm really pleased.

"It's really important to keep a positive state of mind, and exercise is a really good way of doing that."
