CROWDS packed a Moray gathering place at the weekend as locals unveiled their vision for the future of their community.

New Elgin & Ashgrove Public Hall was mobbed with residents on Saturday as the New Elgin East Community Plan was launched during a Family Fun Day.

Following a year of talks across the community, the plan outlines 14 priorities identified by local people during hundreds of conversations.

Included is the introduction of a community garden, as well as the possible reintroduction of the annual New Elgin fete.

Continuing work to curb seagull populations is another priority, as is the establishment of a group for older people to lessen isolation.

Local residents, community group representatives and professionals working in the area form the New Elgin East Community Action Plan Working Group, which is driving the initiative forward with support from Moray Community Planning Partnership.

Claire Howie, who lives in New Elgin and is on the group, said: "We had a hugely successful event on Saturday, with a fantastic turnout.

"From conversations had on the day, as well as comments made since, the event, plan and community garden are a really welcome addition to improve our local area. As well as a great platform to build for future years.

"I’d like to thank our partners, the residents involved, and New Elgin & Ashgrove Public Hall for their support and commitment getting us to this point and going forward.

"Also a big thank you to the community of New Elgin for coming along. We are going to need their continuing support in order to take forward the actions outlined in the plan."
