Forres Angling Association invites Caroline MacLeod of Dalvey Estate to open the fishing season on the River Findhorn
AROUND 60 anglers gathered to launch the new fishing season at the River Findhorn.
Forres Angling Association (FAA) organised the event at the Stoney Pool on Monday, February 12 which included club president Michael Banner’s blessing of the water with sponsor Benromach Distillery’s whisky.
FAA secretary Colin Morrison confirmed Caroline MacLeod of the Dalvey Estate was guest of honour.
He said: “Michael gave a speech then carried out the traditional ceremony accompanied by the bagpipes.
“Members then enjoyed a hot drink and food before leaving to make their first casts of the season.”
Established in 1933, FAA controls four miles of double bank salmon and sea trout fishing on the lower River Findhorn, extending from the Red Craig pool at Mundole to the tidal Sea Pool. The water offers excellent fly fishing, producing salmon in varying heights of water.
There are 17 named fishing pools, most of which are accessible from car parking places.
All pools are easily fished with undemanding wading in most – many pools are best fished from the bank.
All of the ceremony attendees hope the ceremony brings rewards.
Colin said: “Following a disappointing season last year due to the drought, it is hoped catches will increase this year.”
