ROAD closures in the centre of Elgin will be necessary for two days to allow a building to be made safe which was damaged by Storm Otto earlier this year.

The repair work will take place on Sunday, June 18 and Monday, June 19.

The building is on the south east corner of Batchen Street and South Street.

Following the battering by Storm Otto on February 16-17, masonry at the top of the building became loose. Remedial work was undertaken at the time and the footpath closed for a period.

The building is home to Sirology, Grierson Wealth Management, K&M Barbers and private flats.

The final repair work will mean the closure of High Street, Batchen Street, South Street, North Guildry Street and the reversal of the one-way system on Culbard Street.

Only delivery vehicles, permit holders and taxis will be allowed on to High Street, with the closure staffed by the traffic management company to control entry. Vehicles will exit via the east end of the Plainstones.

However, there will be no vehicular access to Batchen Street.

The full closures are:

  • Batchen Street (From High Street to South Street)
  • South Street (From Northfield Terrace to Culbard Street)
  • North Guildry Street (From Moray Street to South Street)
  • Culbard Street (From Moray Street to South Street) – reversal of one way and access for residents only.
There will be no access to Batchen Street for vehicles during the work.
