The hour-long sponsored swim raised £700, which will vaccinate around 900 children against the life-threatening disease.

There was a real gala atmosphere during the challenge, with lots of encouragement from officials, family and friends throughout the challenge.

A spokesperson from Rotary Elgin said: "We would like to say a grateful thanks to everyone who took part and we are delighted to have raised around £700 which will all go to End Polio Now.

"This year, as in previous years, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will match two-to-one every pound that Rotary International raise for End Polio Now up to $50 million - that is $150 million per annum going towards this vital work that Rotary initiated when Polio was a problem across much of the world.

"So in essence, that means the £700 raised by those that took part in the Swimarathon will turn into £2,100, which will allow 900 at risk children to be vaccinated."
