Ian Mackintosh (81) received a medal for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II more than 70 years ago.

Ian, who now lives in Knockando, was awarded the medal aged ten, when he became the Rothes Coronation Sports Junior Champion in 1952.

The award was one of just six medals, given out to the sports winners in the year before Queen Elizabeth's coronation.

Ian said: "I have kept my medal all that time. I can remember being really excited about the medal and about the last coronation. There are probably not many people who can say that they saw the last coronation, because Queen Elizabeth had such a long reign. I was 10 years old during the last one and we didn't have a TV but I remember watching it and it was great."

Although he spent much of his youth winning athletics awards, Ian is planning a much more relaxed coronation weekend this year. He said: "I am looking forward to it, but I don't think I'll manage to do any athletics this time."
