The couple, who own Kenneth's Hairstylists on Elgin's Culbard Street will step down from their business at the end of May.

Kenneth and Shirley first opened the salon in 1972, after Kenneth had received further training at Raymond's Salon in Birmingham.

After training with the famous stylist, Kenneth brought his innovative skills to the Elgin business. He was the first in the area to introduce the cut and blow dry, alongside the more traditional shampoo and set.

Over the years their staff also grew from an initial four to around 20 employees, with some of the salon's first clients still visiting today.

The couple said: "Customer care has always been our top priority and we would like to give thanks to our extensive clientèle for their unfailing support and valued friendships."

They added: "Huge thanks also go to our loyal staff, past and present, without whom our business could not have flourished and we also wish our current staff every success for the future."

Although detaching themselves from the commitment of running the salon will be difficult, Kenneth (75) and Shirley (72) are looking forward to their retirement, and plan to spend more time on travel, golf and family.
