THE Scottish Parliament has launched a search for all the babies who were born on July 1, 1999, the same day that the Parliament was established.

To help find the young people, a picture has been released of the July 1 babies taken at Holyrood on their 10th birthday in 2009.

On the day the Parliament assumed its legal powers 163 children were born in Scotland.

The young people will now be invited to be part of the 20-year anniversary celebrations.

This will include an invitation to the events planned for Saturday, June 29, when the Parliament will open its doors to the people of Scotland.

Back in 2009 Parliamentary officials managed to locate 145 children, 142 of whom travelled from across Scotland, the UK, Canada, the USA and even the Faroe Islands to attend the celebrations.

Presiding Officer, the Rt Hon Ken Macintosh MSP said: "The July 1 babies were at the heart of our 10th anniversary back in 2009 when more than 140 children from across Scotland and beyond joined us to celebrate. We hope to encourage all those young people to be part of this 20th anniversary milestone too.

"By releasing this photograph, we hope to jog the memory of friends or family of the young people involved, or indeed the young people themselves.

"If you are one of our July 1 babies and want to celebrate with us, then please get in touch. These young people have quite literally grown up with the Scottish Parliament so we're very keen to hear from them."
