A WOMAN has discovered a long-lost postcard with a picture of an Elgin-based Cameron Highlander which was taken during World War II.
Margaret Straube, from Inverness, found a postcard of a young man nicknamed 'Pongo' among her father's World War II memorabilia.
It was addressed to Mrs J Jones of 20 Panport Road, Elgin.
Margaret hopes to return the photo to the family, who may still be in and around the Elgin area.
She said: "My late father John Kerr was in the Cameron Highlanders during World War II and among his memorabilia is a photograph post card – I presume of one of his comrades.
"The photo is of a young Cameron Highlander in a kilt and wearing a bearskin, which suggests to me that he is in the pipe band. On his sporran is the badge of the Cameron Highlanders.
"He is standing in front of an army tent. On the reverse of the black and white postcard is the message “with best wishes from Pongo”.
"I take it that the photo is Pongo as this was the custom in the 1940s – that photos were reproduced as post cards.
"If possible I would like this striking photo of the young soldier to be given to any family member. It may be that relatives are still in the Elgin area.
"I hope someone turns up and I will gladly let them have the photo. It measures 13.5cm by 8.5cm."
