Do you know somebody who gives their time and energy tirelessly for their community, looks after the needy, puts others above themselves or has done something extra special in your area?

We want to hear about your everyday heroes, those who go above and beyond what is expected of them to make Moray and Banffshire a great place to live, work and play.

After a successful inaugural year, the Moray & Banffshire Heroes is now back for 2020 – and we need your help.

All across the region, there are selfless people helping others, dedicating their time to looking after those in need, raising vital funds for charities and making a difference in the community.

These are the real Moray & Banffshire Heroes and here at Highland News & Media we believe these people should be recognised for their kindness and generosity.

The first year of the awards saw some wonderful people being recognised and given the praise they deserve for everything they do.

But we know there is no shortage of people in this wonderful part of the world who deserve to be in the limelight. We know because you’ve told us about them.

Last year’s awards were sponsored by Inverness Airport and it has continued its support of the event.

Graeme Bell, general manager of Inverness Airport, said: “Last year’s inaugural Moray & Banffshire Heroes ceremony was a brilliant one, and there were many worthy local people who are pillars within their community and set a fantastic example for us all.

“The team at Inverness Airport was absolutely delighted to be the headline sponsors and we are so excited to be supporting such a notable event in Moray’s calendar again this year.

“The Heroes celebrations are a fantastic opportunity for us to step back and see what incredible people there are in our communities, and these people are more often than not those who do not expect anything in return for their efforts.

“So, this special event is vital to show our Moray & Banffshire Heroes that we see you, and we more than appreciate you – we admire you! So nominate that local hero you know, they deserve that recognition.”

We'll have more information about the individual categories in the coming weeks in your newspaper and on our websites and you'll be able to nominate until early March.

Once we’ve received all your nominations, our judging panel will draw up a shortlist from each category.

The shortlist, along with the stories of all the nominees in contention for each award, will be published in a special supplement at the end of March.

Readers can then vote for the person they think is the most outstanding choice in each category.

Once the votes have been tallied, the winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Mansefield Hotel in Elgin on Thursday, May 14. All those who have been shortlisted will be invited to attend and there will be prominent post-event coverage in our newspapers.
