A Moray theatre group has came second in a contest for one-act plays which was entered by 140 theatre groups from all across Scotland.

LADS got to perform in the finals at Greenock, having previously recorded success at both the district and regional heats, first in Nairn, then Plockton.

Their play – Love at Twilight – was only 22 minutes in length and featured just two actors on stage.

However it packed levels of emotional insight and honesty that were loved by the competition’s judges.

Glenda Anderson, who’s aged 89 and lives in Elgin, starred as a woman who becomes close to a man, played by Stewart Friendship, who lives in the same residential home.

Ian Duncan, the show’s director, said: “We had a great three days in Greenock, meeting up with the other theatre groups. It was a lot of fun.

“We’ve done quite well before in the contest, but never made the finals. This was a team effort and we’re really pleased.”

The LADS group was first formed in Lhanbryde but now meets at Miltonduff Hall.

That will be the venue for its next show, a murder mystery titled ‘Topped in the Big Top’, staged on June 21.

The group is also planning another full length play at the end of November.
