A pervert who secretly recorded videos of female tenants dressing and undressing in a room he rented out in Keith escaped a jail sentence today.

Liam Elliott hid a camera inside a bedside alarm clock in order to record the footage.

When the police raided the Regent Street premises they recovered videos of three different women dressing and undressing as they got in and out of bed.

They also found a video of a couple engaged in sexual activity.

The video had been consensually filmed but Elliott had somehow obtained the footage without the couple's knowledge or agreement

The 35-year-old had previously admitted three charges of voyeurism as well as two further offences relating to the unauthorised possession of a sex video between May 2019 and the following September.

Elliot, who now lives in Larkhall, returned to Inverness Sheriff Court today to learn his fate.

Defence advocate James Robertson told the court that, rather than prison, his client would be suitable for some sort of community-based punishment.

The lawyer stated that, after being charged by police, Elliot had immediately enrolled on a 12-week course for sex offenders.

Sheriff Ian Cruickshank agreed and ordered Elliott to carry out 270 hours of unpaid community work.

The defendant will also remain on the Sex Offender's Register and under the supervision of social workers for the same period.

In addition, Elliott must now take part in another sex offender's programme called 'Moving Forward, Making Changes'.
