'Serious' crash closes A9 in both directions south of Inverness

The A9 is closed in both directions south of Inverness due to a "serious" crash, Traffic Scotland has confirmed.

There are no details of any casualties as yet after a car and a lorry collided near Dalmagarry at around 6am.

The car is understood to have caught fire.

Emergency services attended and the road remains closed in both directions, with diversions put in place.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue service spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 6.09am on Friday, 26 May to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on the A9, close to Tomatin, Highland.

"Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and specialist resources to the scene, where firefighters are working to extinguish a fire affecting one of the vehicles and to make the area safe."

A Police Scotland spokesman said: "Around 6.05 am on Friday, 26 May, 2023 we received a report of crash involving a car and a lorry on the A9 near Dalmagarry.

"Emergency services are in attendance and a number of road closures are in place.

"The public are advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes."
