A LONG standing Buckie funeral home is set to close its doors.

Wm R Mair Funeral Directors, situated on Newlands Lane in the town, is set to shut on June 7.

Owners Dignity Funerals, who also run Moray Crematorium, announced the move in a brief statement on Wm R Mair Funeral Directors’ Facebook page.

It read: “Our William R Mair branch of funeral directors and their associated Facebook page will be closing.

“We continue to serve the local community with passion at your nearest branch, Aberdeen Funeral Directors, Woodside AB25 3TQ. You can also follow them on Facebook at Aberdeen Funeral Directors, Causewayend.

“For further business news, inspiration and support please visit www.dignityfunerals.co.uk and Dignity Funerals [Facebook page].”

A company spokesperson said: “We have been honoured to serve bereaved families in Buckie and would like to thank all the clients that have entrusted us to care for them and their loved ones.

“However, we’ve taken the difficult decision to close the business on Friday, June 7. Dignity will continue to operate Moray Crematorium.

“As far as practical, when we close the branch our colleagues will be offered a similar role at another Dignity business. Where this is not possible, we will support those people with coaching, mentoring and well-being provision to help them secure alternative employment.

“Prior to closing the business, we will ensure all our customer’s needs are met, including writing to those that have purchased a funeral plan to explain their options.”

News of the closure was met with many expressions of shock and disappointment on the firm’s Facebook page, with one describing it as “devastating for Buckie”.

There were also many expressions of gratitude to the staff for their service and compassion to bereaved families over the years.
