A silent vigil was held earlier today in Forres to mark International Women's Day.

The event focussed on the plight of women in war-torn countries.

In addition, it also highlighted the extra difficulties faced by women due to global warming as, in many parts of the world, they are the ones tasked with gathering fuel, water and food.

Amongst those at today's vigil was Jane Gambrill, who was inspired to come after witnessing a previous event on Forres High Street.

She said: "The first time I saw the Women’s Climate Strike vigil it resonated deeply within me.

.

"There was a group of women, of all ages, with a common aim to raise awareness of the serious impact of the climate crisis. No demonstrating, no shouting – just a quiet powerful force.

"For the first time I really felt the power of sisterhood and of silent protest.

"I knew it was the way I could be involved in creating change."
