Views will be sought next week over both a major housing development in Elgin and a new quarry close to the town.

Members of Moray Council's planning committee will be asked on Tuesday to comment on a proposal to build just over 100 social homes at Bilbohall.

In addition, they are also going to be asked to comment on plans to develop a quarry at Dykeside Farm to the south of Elgin.

The housing development is being put forward by Moray Council itself and is on a site near Elgin High School.

About nine football pitches in size, it can be accessed via Edgar Road.

Meanwhile, a second pre-application notice has been submitted on behalf of Leith (Scotland) Limited.

The company is looking to extract and process sand and gravel as well as produce ready-mix concrete.

At the moment the site, which is the equivalent of about 25 football pitches, is agricultural land.

As both developments are over two hectares in size they are considered major developments.

Therefore, proposal of application notices are required so comments can be made and fed back to developers before full planning permission is sought.

The housing development is part of a wider long-term plan to build about 200 homes at Bilbohall.

An event will be held in Birnie Public Hall on Tuesday, March 19, so the general public can give their views on the quarry proposal.

Consultations will also be held with Heldon and Elgin community councils.
