THE inaugural Elgin Summer Music festival aims to raise the cultural bar in Moray this June.

The event endeavours to support schools and community groups focused on art and music education.

Guests will include a folk group from Kazakhstan, internationally renowned Scottish button accordionist Graeme Mackay, harpist Fiona Mary Elizabeth Kyle, harp groups from Feis Moray, Gordonstoun's woodwind orchestra, piano students from the Wellenger School of Music in Elgin and a local Gaelic choir among many more.

The festival, to run over June 8-9, will culminate in a Summer Ceilidh Ball with music from Mr Mackay, known for his solo work as well as being part of ceilidh band Tweed. He now lives in the area.

Organiser Magdalena Wellenger said the events have been designed to make the most of local facilities and heritage, with concerts at Elgin Town Hall and Elgin Cathedral.

Day one will be dedicated to classical music, with entertainment at Elgin Cathedral's Chapter House. The second day will focus on international music at Elgin Town Hall.

Tickets are available online at www.wellengermusic.com. Contact info@wellengermusic.com for more information.

Ms Wellenger established the Wellenger School Of Music in May 2016. She is a member of Elgin Town Hall Community Group, responsible for its cultural programme.
