A teenage motorist who caused another car to flip onto its roof has been warned that he could have killed himself or others.

Greg Laing, who's aged 19 and from Elgin, had several passengers in his vehicle when he sped through a Lossiemouth junction on the night of August 17, 2021.

Inverness Sheriff Court heard that Laing the crash occurred where St Geraldine's Road meets Dunbar Street.

Fiscal depute Emily Hood said: "He was driving well in excess of the speed limit of 30mph and failed to give way at the junction, striking another car and injuring its driver.

"He was travelling at around 40mph to 50mph. The collision caused the other car to spin and his vehicle flipped and landed on its roof."

Sheriff Gary Aitken was told that the other driver – a student – sustained a serious hand injury.

The Sheriff told Laing: "This was exceedingly ill advised. It is a miracle that this piece of driving did not result in significant consequences. You could have killed someone else or yourself."

Sentence was deferred until August 24 for a background report.

Laing was disqualified from driving in the interim.
