New Speyside Glenlivet SNP branch formed
A NEW Moray SNP branch has been formed by the amalgamation of two existing branches.
Rothes and Upper Banffshire SNP branches have come together to form Speyside Glenlivet SNP, will encompass the whole of Moray Council ward one area of the same name.
The decision, which followed consultation with local members, received overwhelming support.
It puts the local party organisation onto a similar footing with other Moray Council wards in that the local branch is aligned with the ward area.
SNP Councillor for Speyside Glenlivet Louise Nicol welcomed the decision. She said: “This is a very exciting merger.
"The two branches have worked closely together during previous elections but there’s now a real enthusiasm to get going with the campaign to get Richard Lochhead re-elected.
"The first meeting was a huge success with old and new members attending via Zoom, sharing thoughts and ideas for the upcoming election.
"There was a real sense of positivity and readiness, I look forward to the future meetings and the new branch campaigning across Speyside.”
Moray SNP MSP Richard Lochhead added: “I’m looking forward to working with the new Speyside Glenlivet branch as we approach the most important Scottish Parliament election in the history of devolution.
“Recent polls show strong public support for the SNP and our First Minister but we are not complacent.
"Alongside our members in Speyside and across Moray, I’ll continue to work hard to secure the support of voters in Moray in May.”
