A WOMAN whose life was saved by nurses and doctors in the "precious NHS" before the Covid-19 pandemic, has written a poem in tribute to them.

Isobel Stewart has thanked the NHS in a poem.
Isobel Stewart has thanked the NHS in a poem.

Isobel Stewart (71) has been so in awe of the job the NHS staff are doing right now to care for people affected by the virus, she put pen to paper.

"I ended up in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and went through an emergency operation in January," she said. "They saved my life for sure.

"The care I had was fabulous," added Isobel, who often writes poems in traditional Doric too.

Isobel, who was born and brought up in Huntly where she attended The Gordon Schools, now lives in Station Court in Aberlour and has read the poem to her neighbours.

Her late husband Ian Stewart was a distillery brewer with Chivas Bros and her father James Dunn was a founder member of Huntly Pipe Band.

Isobel, who celebrated her birthday in lockdown, said while the poem was written with the NHS in mind, she saluted all the key workers who are keeping the country going right now in the midst of the pandemic.

"We need to stop and recognise all these important jobs that people do," she said.

Isobel's poem:

You do the work of Angels or something quite sublime

You've come into our lives at such a difficult time

Your professionalism is boundless exceptional we have to say

You fill us with huge expectation. You help us find our way.

You share a gift so beautiful you care and care for us

You give your time so freely and especially with no real fuss

The work you do is priceless but precious to us all you see

We thank you from the bottom of our hearts on that we all agree

You give us hope and confidence to face the coming years

You free our minds and give us strength to go forward without fear

You enrich our lives immensely we state without hesitation

Are we all glad you're there for us an open invitation.

As we are prepared for the big wide world and face our destiny

With hope and faith to guide us through all the uncertainty

Each and every one of you we hold in pure esteem and gratitude

And wish you all our heartfelt thanks our love in greater magnitude.
