One of Scotland's leading home builders has announced its gender pay gap has effectively been closed.

Springfield Properties, which has an office in Elgin, has reported a small fractional difference in pay between men and women within the business.

The business now has a mean gender pay gap of just 0.5 per cent. In 2019 that figure stood at 6.8 per cent.

According to the Office of National Statistics, on average, men in the UK are paid 15.4 per cent more than women. Springfield Properties is close to removing the gender pay gap within their workforce entirely.

The business has credited the significant reduction to its ongoing commitment to having 15 per cent of its staff in further education, formal training or hired as apprentices - a target which is already being exceeded.

Innes Smith, CEO for Springfield Group, said: "We are proud of these results, which clearly evidence the steps we have taken to foster an inclusive culture where anyone can progress and succeed.

"We have continued to invest heavily in our team and provide clear routes for progression.

"Following the successful completion of additional qualifications supported by Springfield, we were pleased to see three of our female team secure well deserved managerial positions and to welcome two new female directors further strengthening the leadership team."

Kirsty Douglas, who joined the business as a trainee in 2020 but has since been promoted as an architectural assistant and masterplan co-ordinator, added: "There is a misconception that technical roles are dominated by men, but that's changing and it's great to see more women like me given a platform for growth.

"I am fortunate to be part of a great company that promotes career progression, regardless of gender and I am looking forward to continuing to build on my experience."
