Moray housebuilding company Springfield says it hopes to start work soon on 39 affordable homes in Aberlour.

The Speyview development was granted planning permission yesterday by Moray Council.

About the size of four football fields, the site on Dowans Brae is just off the A95, which runs from Moary to Aviemore.

The development will include one to five-bed properties – including bungalows and apartments.

It also include walking and cycle paths plus a children's play area.

Tom Leggeat, the company's managing director for affordable housing, said: "It is widely documented that there is a high demand for affordable housing in Speyside and we are pleased our plans for this long-awaited development have been approved to help relieve this.

"Our homes will bring much needed affordable housing to Aberlour that include innovative technology and quality insulation to ensure the homes are energy efficient and cost effective to run.

"We are currently in discussions with a housing provider to deliver this development in partnership and hope to begin construction early 2024."
