St Gerardine's Primary School pupils plant trees to mark Queen's Platinum Jubilee

ST GERARDINE’S Primary School's eco-committee has planted 32 trees in the school grounds as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy initiative.

A number of schools, business and community organisations around Moray are joining in with the nationwide to plant trees to help mark the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

Moray's deputy lord lieutenant Joan Cowe helped pupils at St Gerardine's with their planting.

She said: “I spoke to the pupils about what the Green Canopy project is about and how planting trees helps support our environment, wildlife, as well as creating green spaces for future generations to enjoy.

“Everyone thoroughly enjoyed their afternoon.”

Teacher Eilidh McLeod was also on hand to help plant the saplings. She said: "The children enjoyed planting the trees in our playground.

“They feel passionate about making our school more environmentally-friendly and making improvements to our school grounds."

The children agreed, with youngster Evie saying: “I’m glad that our school will mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with our new trees.”
