THE force will be with whisky enthusiasts at a special tasting as part of the Spirit of Speyside Festival.

Darth Vadar, Princess Leia, Luke Skywalker, Hans Solo and Chewbacca could be among the guests.

The audience will be taken to a galaxy far far away for a 90-minute tasting experience with a difference.

A special Star Wars theme will see industry experts - including a master blender and brand ambassador - challenged with linking a series of drams to scenes or locations from the iconic film franchise.

Steph Murray, of The Dowans, a massive Star Wars fan, said: “We have asked them to select a dram and pair it with a place in the Star Wars universe.

“They will keep it to themselves and the audience will be asked to make the connection.

“It is a huge bit of fun,” added Steph.

“In my younger days I wanted to be like Princess Leia. She symbolized what I wanted to be when I was older - a strong, independent woman, a real powerhouse.”

Steph is encouraging those taking part to dress up as their favourite Star Wars character to add to the fun.

And she hopes to have a special guest in attendance, someone whose father was a production assistant on the original film, and who now lives in Moray.

Asked what she thought Darth Vadar’s favourite whisky would have been, Steph said: “It would have to be a super bold, peaty, smack-in-the-face whisky like Laphroaig.”

The Dowans' tasting will be a tribute to a photographer who combined a love of Star Wars with whisky.

Brett Ferencz was the ultimate film and whisky fan.

And 25 per cent of all ticket sales will go to Cancer Research in his memory.

Steph Murray said his Scotch Trooper alter ego always made her smile.

“He had a huge following on Instagram. We met him when he was over in Scotland.”

As The Scotch Trooper, he used Star Wars toys and miniatures posed with bottles of different whiskies via Instagram.

“The world has lost a lovely person.”

The Star Wars tasting is on Friday, April 29 at The Dowans Hotel in Aberlour. It is 90 minutes and tickets are £30.
