TAKE the time to have a meaningful conversation about mental health.

If your mind is in overdrive and you need help, open up to someone you know or a professional support service.
If your mind is in overdrive and you need help, open up to someone you know or a professional support service.

That's the message from the Mental Health Foundation (MHF) ahead of World Mental Health Day on Tuesday (October 10).

Talking about how you feel is important to help protect your mental health. If you are struggling, it helps to talk to someone you trust.

Julie Cameron, associate director for Scotland at the MHF, said: "If you want to start a conversation with someone about their mental health, find a quiet space with no distractions. Listen and allow the person to speak.

"Ask questions but don’t interrupt. Ask how you can help and listen to what they need."

The aim of World Mental Health Day is about raising awareness and driving positive change for everyone’s mental health.

Suggestions include 'Tea and Talk' events in the workplace to get people involved.

It can be challenging to reach out but talking will make things easier to deal with.
