Moray Council's education committee passed the plans to recognise the bank holiday on Monday, May 8 without discussion.

The committee was recommended to grant the day off and Council leader Councillor Kathleen Robertson proposed a motion to do so.

She was seconded by Councillor Derek Ross.

The holiday will only go ahead, however, if the Council agrees to give all staff the day off at a January 31 meeting.

In a report written by Council officer Anne Smith, members were asked to officially reduce the number of teaching days by one, from the requirement to provide 190 days of schooling this year.

The report drew attention to similar situations, including the Royal Wedding in April 2011, the Diamond Jubilee in 2012, and the Platinum Jubilee in June 2022.

September 2022 saw similar arrangements for the additional Bank Holiday arising from the Queen’s funeral.
