Superdrug and Three in Elgin's St Giles Centre to close

SUPERDRUG in Elgin is set to close its doors for the final time this month.

The health and beauty shop, which is located within St Giles Centre in the town, will close on Saturday, August 20.

The Three mobile phone shop concession within Superdrug has already closed on August 13.

A Superdrug spokesperson said: "It has been confirmed that the Elgin Superdrug store is due to close on 20th August. The store closure is due to the lease ending, with the Superdrug team hoping to open in local retail parks in the future.

"All team members have been offered positions in other stores and the store team will continue to support staff in finding alternative positions in the Elgin area."

The managing agent of St Giles Centre said that everything was tried to retain Superdrug.

"In advance of the lease expiry, the landlord’s agent was in contact with Superdrug to agree renewal terms to retain this long standing tenant within the centre," the agent said.

"During these discussions the best possible terms were offered to the tenant for consideration and unfortunately, after consideration of the terms, the tenant has taken the decision to close the store and we believe pull out of Elgin completely.

"We are aware from speaking to other centres where Superdrug are tenants that they are rationalising their store portfolio with a number of closures.

"Rest assured that the landlord did everything they could to retain this tenant."
