SWIMMING pools, gyms and fitness centres can re-open from Monday and preparations are underway across Moray.
Staff at Moray Council's community swimming pools and fitness suites have been undergoing special training ahead of re-opening.
Sport and Leisure Manager, Ken Brown, said: “We’re working hard to prepare for re-opening, and can’t wait to welcome our customers back. However there’s still more planning to do, and staff training, so we’ll confirm re-opening dates as soon as we’re able to.
"We’ll contact all those with FitLife? memberships paid directly to the council by Direct Debit, in advance of restarting payments, or those with annual memberships, to confirm arrangements.
“Meanwhile colleagues have been undertaking important water safety training, first aid training, competency tests and learning new safe working procedures, so we can offer a safe and enjoyable experience to all our customers when we re-open our swimming pools and gyms.
“We’re also continuing to work behind the scenes on a booking system that allows Moray Council and Moray Leisure Centre users to book sessions at all facilities, and we’ll update members when this is available.”
Moray Leisure Centre will re-open its pool, gym and fitness classes from Monday, however, pre-booking is essential and there will be no admittance to the centre without it.
Members of the public will be asked to queue from the pool steps outside the centre and observe the safe distancing markers. People will be asked to self-scan their membership cards at reception to gain entry.
The swimming will operate on a lane booking system initially, with limited cubicle and showering facilities available. The ice rink will be used for group sessions and ice activities will not return until January.
Moray Sports Centre on Linkwood Road in Elgin will also re-open from Monday, but will have reduced opening hours at the weekend.
All gym and studio sessions must be pre-booked before arrival at the centre.
The maximum of people which can be accomodated in the centre at any one time has been reduced to allow for social distancing, however, new activity areas have been introduced to enhance the opportunity to exercise.
The centre has also implemented a new cleaning regime and staff have undergone training to ensure they can help customers enjoy their visit and feel as safe as possible.
