Moray Council will discuss behind closed doors next week its proposals to cut office jobs at local primary schools.

The matter will go before councillors on Tuesday, but no member of the public or the media will be able to attend that part of the education committee's meeting.

Another related issue concerning the ongoing funding of pastoral care for pupils may also be discussed in private.

The council has to save £20 million over the next two years to balance the budget.

As part of a money saving exercise it carried out a review into primary school office jobs in May.

The upshot is some clerical assistants could lose their jobs, while administrators are facing their hours being cut and their roles being downgraded.

Campaigners protested outside the local authority’s head quarters in June calling for the proposals to be scrapped

Meanwhile, councillor Derek Ross (Speyside/Glenlivet, Independent) asked for them to be "dumped".

A spokesperson for the council said the issue was being discussed in private because it relates to staffing matters, some of which could be personal.
