A TAXI boss has hit out at the thug who "bottled" one of his drivers in a sickening attack.

Les Symon (63) was attacked by a hooded assailant who made off with about £70 in cash.

C&R Taxis boss Roddy McLennan said: "It is disgraceful. He has got staples, stitches and glue in his wounds. He was very lucky.

"If the bottle had smashed it could have been much worse.

"Les tried to fight back, but because he was sitting in the car he had little chance."

Mr Symon, of Elgin, was recovering at home this week following hospital treatment for cuts to his face and head.

The attack took place in the early hours of Tuesday in the Springfield Court area of Elgin.

The robber was described as being in his late teens or early 20s and around 5ft 7in tall. He was wearing a dark, hooded jacket or top, and spoke with a local accent.

Mr McLennan added: "Les has been with us for over five years and is a fine boy. He just gets on with the job.

"I spoke to Les and he seemed chirpy enough, and he will be back to work on Friday."

A local resident whose address was falsely given by the attacker when he made a call to lure the cab to the area, said she was shocked by the incident.

The woman, who did not want to be named, said: "I didn’t think Elgin had sunk quite so low. People like this have all day to sleep and then spend the night trying to plunder hard-working people. It makes you sick."

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police via the Service Centre on 0845 600 5 700 or anonymously via Crimestoppers 0800 555 111.
