A TAXI boss sickened by a brutal assault on a 63-year-old driver has vowed to instal CCTV in his cabs, after one of his own staff was robbed.
The theft of a cabbie’s money bag containing £250 came two days after Les Symon was viciously bottled on the head and face, with his attacker escaping with £70.
Craig MacDonald, of CM Taxis in Elgin, said taxi drivers are fearful following the attack on Mr Symon, a popular local driver with C&R Taxis.
Police are still hunting for the hooded attacker who viciously assaulted and robbed him in the early hours of Tuesday, December 20 in New Elgin.
Just 48 hours later, CM Taxis’ driver John Martin had his money bag stolen after a front-seat passenger distracted him while a passenger in the rear of the six-seat vehicle grabbed the bag.
“The boy in the front kept the driver talking while one of them in the back snatched the bag,” said Mr MacDonald.
The police are following a positive line of enquiry following the incident in the Lesmurdie area, but Mr MacDonald had yet to hear if any arrests have been made.
Mr MacDonald admitted the attack on Mr Symon had shocked local drivers. “It is appalling that somebody could do that to Les. It is disgusting and I hope they catch him.
“I don’t feel as if we have any protection. Over the Christmas period you are wary of who is getting into the taxi.
“I have had enough,” said Mr MacDonald. “This is our livelihoods. I am going to buy CCTV for both my vehicles.”
