TEMPORARY safety cameras are to be set up in various locations on roads around Moray.
The North Safety Camera Unit is announcing a number of seasonal short-term deployments with the number of visitors to Moray set to rise in the coming weeks.
Seven safety camera vans will be sitting around Moray, with two on the A96, two on the A95, two on the B9040 and one on the A939.
The two on the A96 will be at Forres and near Alves. One of the A95 cameras will be near the junction with Dowans Road and the other near the B9138.
The B9040 Hopeman to Burghead road will have a camera near the junction with Sigurd Street, with the Lossiemouth to Hopeman road having one near the junction with the B9012.
There will be a camera on the A939 Tomintoul to Cockbridge road near the junction with the B9008.
These locations have been selected with the aim of improving driver behaviour by encouraging motorists to slow down and drive within the speed limits.
Eric Dunion, manager of the North Safety Camera Unit, said: “We have been working closely with our Police Scotland colleagues and local authorities to identify locations where we anticipate an increase in traffic due to the increased number of visitors for either holidays or day trips.
"These locations would not normally meet the criteria to become a permanent location but the short term deployment scheme gives us the flexibility to be at locations where we believe there will be a change in traffic behaviour.
"We will be enforcing at the locations and aim to encourage motorists to improve their driver behaviour and adhere to the speed limits in place. Speed limits are in place for the safety of all road users.”
Chief Inspector Andy Barclay of Roads Policing North added: “With the expected increase in tourist travel over the coming months, I am delighted that the North Safety Camera Unit is taking the strategic approach of implementing short term deployment locations.
"Road Policing work closely with the Safety Camera Unit to make our roads safer for all road users.”
